We will be staying at the Hartstone Inn in June, but don%26#39;t want to have dinner there because they only have a set menu each night without any choices (and you have to reserve a table weeks in advance). Any recommendations for fine dining in Camden, or nearby, for a couple who do not like shellfish of any kind. (Fish, steak, chicken, veal, etc., all OK)

I%26#39;ve heard a lot of buzz about Francine Bistro, see http://www.francinebistro.com/ and Primo, see http://www.primorestaurant.com/
Haven%26#39;t eaten at either.

Francine and Primo are both yummy. Primo has a bit more of an upscale feel than Francine which is very casual (in atmosphere only- not in food!!)
Primo is special occaisions, Francine is everyone running into each other.
As in friends running into each other to say hi- not as in too crowded! I need to write more clearly!
The dining room at the Samoset Resort in nearby Rockport.
You are making a mistake not eating at Hartstone. I love to travel and eat at some of the very best restaurants and this one is at the top of my list. You don%26#39;t have a choice of menu but I think that is part of the adventure. You can let them know ahead of time if there are foods you really dislike or are allergic to but I can%26#39;t recommend this enough. I have eaten at Francines and at Primo but Hartstone is better! Primo is very pricey but perhaps one of the best in Maine and a good choice for the second night. Francine%26#39;s is lots of fun...busy, active, limited menu of usually 4 entrees...but excellent. Book Hartstone when you book the room and it is only 35.00 per person excluding drinks and tip.
Hartstone is very nice and we have eaten there 3 or 4 times. It is a bit sketchy when you are tied into only one menu for the night and you are dining with people with strong preferences.
Personally, I very much prefer Francine Bistro, it is out of this world. Duck, Steak Frites, his amazing salad, his pan seared halibut is wow good! The atmoshpere is lively, up beat, a little trendy, very fun to be there. Primo, eh, kind of overrated. It has a little bit of the EMperor%26#39;s new clothes to me. Last time we ate there we aere next to a table of pompous people that had a dozen questions about the region in Italy the olive oil was from. A lot of that kind of thing. Delicious though.
See the thread on this site for Francine, the reviews are unanimous.
francine is awesome but u have to call a week or two in advance sometimes or u have to get lucky waiting at the bar ... call ahead!
