Need some advice

Flying in to Boston in Aug and renting a car. Want to visit ME(then RI and back to Boston). What are some things we must do in ME and where should we stay ? We would like to stay along the coast and not have to do a lot of driving once we arrive. We don%26#39;t mind walking and/or doing a tour to explore the area. We are into restaurants, bars, shops and history ! Also, we have a total of 10 days to get it ALL in ! THANKS for any advice.

Acadia is most folks%26#39; favorite part of Maine. With ten days, you should be able to make it that far into Maine. If not, try to go at least as far as Camden where you can get the ';rockbound coast'; feel. Portland is also worth an overnight. And you might like one night in Kennebunkport. I recommend the Colony Hotel, a grand old classic hotel.

Terrace By the Sea in Ogunquit is a nice spot. Book by June because August will fill up quickly all up %26amp; down the coast.

Others have posted regarding favorites. One thing that you need to know: from Boston to Acadia National Park (Bar Harbor et al.) is roughly five hours via I-95 and about an hour longer if you choose the coastal route (Rte 1).

Given ten days and wanting (at least one-way) to stay near the coast, you could easily get to Acadia in stages. The Rockland/Camden area is a good middle point. If you are interested in art, especially that which mirrors the history of the area, I would suggest a vist to the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland. Typically they not only have collections by the Wyeths but also of the much earlier artists who brought attention to the Acadia area.

I would second the notion to spend a night in Portland---a lovely city and one in which it is almost impossible not to have a great meal.
