I%26#39;m bringing my mom to Bar Harbor this May (4th-6th) to look at possible reception sites for my wedding (May 2008).
I haven%26#39;t been to Bar Harbor in 10 years, what restaurants and sites should I take my mom to?
Any that we just CAN%26#39;T pass up?
My mom has never been to Maine and I%26#39;m excited to show her Acadia Nat%26#39;l Park.
Are there any boat tours or something similar that early in the pre-season?
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!
Bar Harbor in early May
With any luck at all, it should have stopped snowing by then (we have a bit more due tonight) and all of the park roads will be open.
Unfortunately, that%26#39;s a little early in May for much to be open. Many of the restaurants target Mother%26#39;s Day weekend for their opening.
One place that you ought to try on Friday or Saturday is Mache Bistro, on Cottage Street. Another of my favorites is Red Sky in Southwest Harbor. Both of those are open Friday and Saturday this time of year.
I doubt that any of the boat tours will be operating that early.
As additional information about the park, restaurant openings, etc., becomes available, I%26#39;ll post it here.
Bar Harbor in early May
Thank you so much! I presumed not much would be open. I appreciate all the input!
There are always opportunities to be out on the water even if the boat tours haven%26#39;t started. The Swans Island Ferry runs from Bass Harbor and the Mail Boat to Cranberry always goes from Northeast. Please keep in mind that %26#39;always%26#39; really means %26#39;weather permitting%26#39; and you probably wouldn%26#39;t want to be out there anyway. (Last week, a ferry run was cancelled because they couldn%26#39;t keep the snow off the deck. We all sincerely hope that the s word will not be part of the forecast in May but...) I would consider taking one of these ferries just for the view of the Island from the water. Congratulations and have a great trip.
