Anyone stayed at the Carriage House on route 1 in Wells, Maine? I hear that new owners took it over and renovated. Does anyone have an opinion of it? Also, where is it located? Is it past the USA Inn going North? How far from the Well, Beach? Thanks for any info you can give. :)
Carriage House
I think it%26#39;s just south of the USA INN but I%26#39;m not certain, its on the other side of the street. I was checking it out for a future stay and all I know about it was that the lady answering the phone was extremely nice. She had just come in from planting flowers around the grounds.
Sorry I don%26#39;t have more info. I will be in the area first week of June, I think, and will at least look the place over for you!
Carriage House
Thanks, that would be great because we are not going until July. Email me about it when you get back I%26#39;d appreciate that.
Best,
Diane
Hi,
My friend stayed at the Carriage House (a few years ago)...I remember her saying that she liked it there and that she would have no problems staying there again.
I%26#39;ve been to Wells quite a few times, and I would guess that The Carriage House would be about a 5 minute drive to Wells beach. For the last 2 years that I%26#39;ve gone to Maine, I%26#39;ve stayed at the Lafayette Oceanfront Resort which is right on Wells Beach. It%26#39;s great because you don%26#39;t have to drive to park at the beach...you%26#39;re already there. Just put on your bathing suit and walk out the door. If you have kids, this could be very convenient. Also, the parking lot at Wells Beach is not that large and fills up very fast (guess that%26#39;s because it%26#39;s free to park there - some beaches in the area, you have to pay for the parking).
Have a great trip!
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know of Lafayette%26#39;s. I really don%26#39;t particulary care for Wells Beach because you lose the beach when the tide comes in and you have to keep moving. I like Ogunquit Beach much better. I%26#39;m looking at Wells motels because they are usually cheaper than Ogunquit. I may just end up at USA Inn, really nice rooms and cheaper than any around, just no pool. :(
Thanks again,
Diane
We are going there in a couple of days. I%26#39;ll let you know when I get back.
We will be staying there soon. I will let you know what I think when I come back.
Yes, it is past the USA Inn about a mile, going north, on the other side of the street. Almost up to the intersection where the two pizza places are, near Mikes Clam Shack., not far from Congdon%26#39;s donuts. Walking distance to a few places including Dunkin donuts. Nice and clean and friendly but the cheaper rooms are right on route 1, I don%26#39;t think I would stay here unless we got a quiet room in the back. Or you could bring earplugs I guess. Certainly wouldn%26#39;t be noisier than the front rooms at the USA Inn i suppose.
Stayed 2 nights at the Carriage House Inn - in the Inn (front room). Very nice room, VERY clean, very nice people, and as someone mentioned you did hear the traffic a lot. Although, the season hadn%26#39;t really started yet, but the owners told us when things get going it can take 1 hour to get from the Inn to Ogunquit beach (approx. 5 miles!!). The pool is smaller than it appears on site and in their brochure, but was nice and clean. The owners even turned up the heater for us. Furnishings, grounds, etc. are all tastefully done and quality.
We checked out a motel room, cottage and the back house that sleeps 6. All were very nice inside. Some have been completely redone.
You can walk to DD and The Steakhouse (not to confuse this with the Wells Steakhouse). Absolutely the best steak dinner we have had anywhere and prices were reasonable for a resort area.
Wells beach is really small. We went to Drakes Island beach. Very nice beach, no fee at this time, but all beaches charge high parking in season. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
