maine in the fall

I know Maine isn%26#39;t the New England state most folks flock to for fall color, but w are considering visiting Maine the first week in October. Any suggestions for scenic color? Once we are there we will rent a car and tour so scenic routes would be great.

The reason why Vermont and New Hampshire are often recommended for fall foliage is partly because they have mountain ranges which are great to get that long view of the color. But Maine has mountains too.

I suggest coming to Acadia National Park on the coast of Maine. Things will be coloring nicely during the first week in October. You can hike to mountain tops and drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain which will give you a great view of the color. You could day-trip down to Camden where the top of Mount Battie has a wonderful view of the color. You could day-trip northeast from Bar Harbor along what is called The Whaleback. There are wonderful views of the color along that highway also.

Hi jmjim,

Try checking out www.visitmaine.com for all kinds of info for any time of year. The site should help you decide where to visit for the best color and you can also order a guide to peruse.

Good luck and enjoy. Maine can be absolutely stunning in the Fall with a dramatic contrast of golds, reds, and dark evergreens against the very blue ocean and sky!
