We are planning a trip to the mid coast in June... before kids are out of school. Has anyone stayed at the ';Ledges'; or ';Strawberry Hill'; in the Camden/Rockland area? Suggestion on which one would be better. Also, is everything open up there in mid-June? Suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
Camden Area Question re lodging
I have stayed at both locations in the past. Here is my 2 cents worth. If I had to make a choice between the two, I would choose the Ledges By The Bay... Strawberry Hill is a very nice motel. The rooms are nice and the property%26#39;s curb appeal is a little better than the Ledges but the location in terms of the view is not as good.
The Ledges is situated on the same cove about 1000 feet south of Strawberry Hiil. It looks out and up into the cove and Penobscot Bay and has more panoramic views of the bay than Strawberry Hill (see reviews on this site). The Ledges also receives higher marks here on TripAdvisor. To my knowledge, it has been operated by the same family for over forty years - My experience has been that the staff at the Ledges is friendlier and works harder to please their customers.
If you do decide to stay at the Ledges, I recommend staying in their newer section overlooking the water. These newer rooms have either 2 queens or a single king and come in either a standard or deluxe version. (The deluxe version has more upscale amenities like a flat panel LCD TV, free 500 plus in-room movie selection, a computer in the room, high-speed Internet access and more elegant furnishings and accessories.) There are only a few of these deluxe rooms available so they seem to go quickly. If you do not need these types of amenities, their standard oceanview room is also very nice.
Also, we happened to find the Ledges while searching on Google with the keyword phrase, ';camden maine lodging';. I mention this because they often run discount specials through Google that are cheaper than booking online directly. Typically, you need to refer to a special saver rate when calling to get this discounted rate.
