We travel to Bar Harbor every summer and love it! Last year we to the Cat over to Nova Scotia for the day and while it was aa nice day, we found it to be very expensive. This year we%26#39;d like to take a drive north into New Brunswick and spend a day or 2 to see the bay of fundy area. I%26#39;m looking for info on an area that might offer beautiful scenery and some outdoor activity that would be a 2 or 3 hour drive from bar harbor...Any suggestions?

Look at Campobello Island - just across the bridge from Lubec, Maine. We stayed at a place called the Lupine Lodge there a couple of years back. You can drive up to the end of the island and at low tide, descend a ladder, walk across the floor of the Bay of Fundy, climb a ladder and visit East Quoddy Light. Just make sure you timing is right or you%26#39;ll be stuck there until the next low tide.
Anyway, I think Campobello Island would have everything you are looking for.

Thanks PAflyfisher! we will check it out..any idea of how long it woud take us to get there from Bar harbor?
I did the drive around the Bay of Fundy one year. Started at Lubec, crossed over to Campobello, took two ferries to get to mainland NB and then drove thru St. Andrews and back to the US thru St Stephen and Calais and ended in Eastport.
The town of St. Andrews is touristy, but the rest of NB was hard scrabble, remote and not particularly outstanding. I wouldn%26#39;t go again.
I second the recommendation to visit Campobello, but I%26#39;d let the rest of NB go unless maybe you can get to Grand Manan. I%26#39;ve seen photos and that looks very like a very interesting area.
The prettiest part of the Downeast region is Lubec/Campbello and the Cutler/Bold Coast area. That%26#39;s where I%26#39;d go if I were you. There is a cool lighthouse on the tip of Campobello called the EAST Quoddy LIght. Go at low tide and you can walk across the ocean floor to the lighthouse. At high tide, it%26#39;s totally surrounded by water.
In the Cutler area check out the puffin tours. A bit pricey, but an incredible trip! http://www.boldcoast.com/
2 or 3 hours will not quite get you to the best parts of the New Brunswich Bay of Fundy. You add an hour to that and you can reach the Fundy Trail parkway another hour and you%26#39;ll get to Fundy National park. Both offer amazing coastal scenery. (just google them for more info)
It would take you about 2 1/2hrs to get to the border crossing into New Brunswick. It will take about 2 hrs to get to Campobello Island from Bar Harbor. If going to Campobello you should certainly check out the West Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec (US side) as well and, as mentioned, the Bold Coast Trails in Cutler offer a wonderful hike and great veiws from cliffs overlooking the ocean.
MicheleS have you been to Funday National park and the Fundy trail I thought they were spectacular, of course I am a waterfall enthusiast and that is the closest place to here to see a few albeit smaller ones, so that kind of added to my opinion of them.
