Will we have to drive and park in Acadia since we are vacationing the week before the Island Explorer starts running on June 23rd? Are there any other shuttles?
Getting around Acadia
You will have to drive and park in Acadia. There are no other shuttles. There is Ollie%26#39;s Trolley which will take you for a tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia.
But, fear not, the reason the shuttle is not yet running at that time in June is because there is not enough traffic to justify it. You%26#39;ll be fine. There is parking at Sand Beach, at Thunder Hole, lots of parking at Jordan Pond, and a few parking spots at each trail head. There is also parking anywhere in the right lane of the Park Loop Road where the road is one way. Things are not all that conjested.
Getting around Acadia
You wont have any troubles - parking is not usually a problem. The problem my wife and I have when we are up there is... I like to hike. I will hook up a few trails and hike multiple legs so I dont have to end up where I start off from. For example, I will start up the Giant Slide and end up at the Jordan Pond House or start up Pemetic and end up on the top of Cadillac. I just have to tell her where to meet me. But, when we hike together, we have to do a loop as that is the only way to get back to the car. But, for parking/stopping in general along the Loop Road you will be fine. We also have never been to the park when the shuttles were running. We either go in the spring (late may) or in the fall after they stop running.
Good luck and have fun.
