Maine in April redux

At 1111 in Bar Harbor, we have 11 inches of new, wet, snow---and counting. I%26#39;ve heard that there is considerable tree damage in this area (I can vouch for some---our large white pine has last several large branches so far).

Acadia National Park staff, who have been working toward a 15 April date for opening the Loop Road, must be overjoyed.

Thanks for your post. I am just about an hour and half from Acadia and looking for some Spring cross country skiing. I have had some great times skiing in the park. We got about 14 inches here on 4/5/07. Do you still have your snow?

Yes, we still have our snow. We got about 15 inches. I%26#39;m not sure what shape the carriage roads are in for cross country skiing. But I would guess pretty good given that the snow is still roofs and lawns.

I rather doubt that they have done any trail grooming but most of the carriage roads should be in good shape for skiing.

they should bring back horse-drawn sleighs

Dont they still have horse drawn sleighs at certain times on the carriage roads in the winter or is this just something I was dreaming about. Its been a coupel years since I was thinking about taking my wife to do this so my memory is a little hazy.

I guess it wouldn%26#39;t surprise if someone (e.g., a Rockefeller?) had one, but I%26#39;ve never seen one or the tracks of one. Of course in the winter, I seldom get down to Little Long Pond area, where a lof of the riding is done.
