Have put down a deposit on a small cabin in Somesville off Route 3 on Kittredge Brook Road. All my choices were dropping away so I took this one as it seems centrally located. Where would be the best places to dine from here, where would I get groceries and other supplies? Should I stock up before I cross over onto the island?
What would be the best plan to go hiking and sight seeing from this location? Should I rely on the shuttle or drive around?
Any feedback would be great! We%26#39;ll be there in August.
Cottage in Somesville
It is just a short drive from Somesville to Southwest Harbor%26#39;s Foodmart. It is a smaller grocery store, but has a little something of everything. You can also just drive right down the road to Somesville One Stop and get some minimal things there (Milk, water, soda, bread, crackers, etc). For a larger grocery store, you can drive over to Bar Harbor (just a short 10 minute drive at the most) to the local Hannaford store...there would be a larger selection for goods here vs SWH.
As for hiking, there are many hiking trails near where you will be staying...Beech Mountain would offer a few different trails from moderate to difficult. There are also trails up Acadia %26amp; St. Sauvuer%26#39;s that would only be a short drive away from where you will be staying.
