I overheard a conversation between two women in Portland, discussing a high-end purse that one had bought. She mentioned the name of the discount store where she%26#39;d bought it (somewhere East of Portland) and her friend answered, ';Yes, it%26#39;s a wonderful secret. I shop there too.'; I can%26#39;t remember the name of the store. Any ideas?

Well, east of Portland is the ocean. So that%26#39;s puzzling.
Since you say this was a high-end purse, and one called the store a wonderful secret, it%26#39;s unlikely that it was purchased at the best-known Maine discount stores: Reny%26#39;s or Marden%26#39;s. But I mention them on the off-chance that might be it.
I hope somebody else responds, but if I find out the answer, I%26#39;ll post again.

To me, the conversation sounds like they might have been talking about one of the stores in Portland%26#39;s Old Port. If you go to the site below, there is a list of the stores. Maybe the name will pop out at you.

Just not enough info without the brand. Possible she was shopping in Freeport, 20 minutes downeast from Portland, where there are dozens of outlets. Some examples: Dooney %26amp; Burke, Coach, Anne Klein, Jones New York, etc.

Also possible she was referring to Angela Adams, located on the eastern pennisula of Portland (VERY high-end...)
Could be. Does Angela Adams sell discounted clothing too? This place does, but I gather it%26#39;s a store where you get what you get at the particular moment you walk in the door. I.e., stock changes all the time as they get in new discounted items.
I think its possible that it was Marden%26#39;s. Chesterlady do you know that it is NOT Marden%26#39;s. While Mardens is a statewide chain and is well known by many it is not that well known by some of the ';upper class'; or by visitors. Also some people who shop there all the time dont like to discuss it unless someone else brings it up first, apparently they are embarassed, not me I love Marden%26#39;s and rave about any deal I find there. I have been to a couple Marden%26#39;s recently and they have had large shipments of purses as of late. It is certainly one of those places you can go to one day and find nothing you want and go again after a new shipment and find a lot. At the moment the stores are loaded with golfing equipment which is nothing to me but several of the guys I work with have been talking about the deals they got there. To anyone who does not know about Marden%26#39;s it is ';a wonderful secret'; worth discovering in my opinion. The Marden%26#39;s in Porland is in what I would kind of consider east of the city though it is actually North or Northeast.
