~Wine & Dine -- Help :)

~~ Hey there, we are having some good friends come to

town and would really like some suggestions for a nice

restaurant AND a great wine selection. We have been to

Fore St. as well as Street %26amp; Co. Where else can you

get good food and a nice vino right in the heart

of the Old Port.

If you%26#39;re willing to stray a few blocks from the heart of the Old Port, I%26#39;d strongly recommend Hugo%26#39;s (corner of Middle and Franklin) and 555 (Congress Street). Both of these restaurants have received some national acclaim of late. (And frankly, leave Fore Street and Street %26amp; Co in the dust.) You won%26#39;t be disappointed!

somehow connected with Fore Street. I really don%26#39;t know if

that is true or just hearsay. Hugo%26#39;s may work since our

friends will be satying at the Hilton Waterfront and it will

be so convenient.

We don%26#39;t do the micro brew thing do you have suggestions

for a bar.....????

I would suggest the bar at the Portland Sea Grill, on Commercial Street. Or, for something a little hipper, check out Una, on the corner of Fore and Cotton Sts. (Killer martinis.)

I%26#39;d suggest Bull Feeney%26#39;s. I%26#39;ve had great food there. Or RiRa%26#39;s. Both informal but yummy.

Some friends of ours, who are restauranteurs here on MDI, were there about a month ago and were not impressed. *** That being said, there have been other comments on these forums that have been favorable.

***They were, however impressed with Duckfat.

Duckfat is a small place just down Middle Street from Hugo%26#39;s. In fact, Hugo%26#39;s established Duckfat. It is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

It%26#39;s principal claim to fame is the french fires (one really should call them Belgian fries), which are twice-cooked in duck fat and served with an assortment of sauces to choose from (my favorite is duck gravy).

They have great paninis and salads. as well as superb milkshakes and homemade sodas and excellent coffee..
