Whitewater Rafting Weekend Maine/Vermont

I am trying to plan a weekend trip in June to maine/vermont and want to spend a day whitewater rafting. I%26#39;ve been researching and it seems like the ';forks'; is the best are for rafting. I%26#39;ve also found that there a many companies ie nothern outdoors or crabapple inc, that provide rafting tours/guides.

Q1: what rafting company would you recommend?

Q2: I would like to rent a cabin/house for 12+ people near the rafting area. Any suggestions on location or rental companies?

Q3: This would be the first time rafting for all of us. We would like to make the best of it. Any advice?

Would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

DelSol,

Interesting questions. Maine and Vermont don%26#39;t border one another, so I%26#39;m not sure how you%26#39;re putting together this weekend trip without spending a lot of time in the car. But if you do plan on doing some rafting in Maine, The Forks is your best bet. The two companies I would recommend are New England Outdoor Center (NEOC) and Northern Outdoors. Both have web sites that list their accomodations (cabins for large groups), trips, etc. The Forks are in the middle of, well, nowhere, so plan accordingly. I%26#39;ve rafted with NEOC before, they seem the most organized and easy to deal with. Good luck with you trip.

There really isnt any rafting in Vermont in the Summer, but if you go to Maine I would recommend Crabapple. Really solid company with a good guide staff and probably considered the best company on the Kennebec River.by most of the people on the river (guides from all companies, owners, etc). If your doing the Penobscot I would recommend NEOC, which is also a pretty solid company.

Also there is whitewater rafting in Northwestern Mass right by the Vermont border which is not nearly as remote as the Forks in ME. Crabapple is also the company for that trip. In terms of a cabin most companies in Maine have cabins/cottages on site so your best bet would be to call and ask.

In terms of advice, ask for a senior guide or the trip leader, tell them what you want in a trip, let them know you%26#39;ll tip well and you%26#39;ll be VERY well taken care of
