I%26#39;d like to hear some recent opinions about the Lobster pounds in the area. Cape Neddick Lobster Pound has a website and the Ogunquit Lobster Pound does not. Which is better, or they about the same? We will be staying in Ogunquit for the 4th of July week and wonder what some of you think about the best places to eat. We are pretty casual people so the fancy restaurants our out. Any suggestions?
Lobster pounds %26amp; good seafood in the Ogunquit areaThe Ogunquit Lobster Pound is casual and has great food. You go outside to a large stone tank and pick your own lobster. It is in walking distance of some of the hotels, is accesable from the trolley and has a large parking lot. We like to go early to beat the wait for a table, but even if you have to wait, its worth it.
Lobster pounds %26amp; good seafood in the Ogunquit areaBy the way. Other then the 2 lobster pounds that you mentioned, you can also get good seafood, in a casual setting on Perkins Cove. Barnacle Billy%26#39;s and Barnacale Billys Etc both have great lobster. Also the Oarweed is very good. Jackies Too is a tourist trap and the food there is fair to poor.
Chaunceys Lobster pound is also very good.It is a little off the beaten path but the atmosphere is great,it is on a canal and has picnic tables with a byob type of policy,Good luck
I ate at the Oqunquit Lobster Pound with 2 friends...we drove
from Central MA just to eat there. The lobster is good; you pick
out your own lobster in the beginning. The location is nice,
especially if you want to visit more of Oqunuit, such as the
Marginal Way (the walk along the beach), etc.
I think the food is overpriced, and other than the lobster, which
was good, was disappointing. The children%26#39;s menu wasn%26#39;t
much. The restaurant is nice but casual and not that great
inside.
You will enjoy the lobster but the rest of the food is disappointing.

Hi,
I%26#39;ve been to maine at least 6 times and I really found that a lot of restaurants in the Ogunquit area seem to be more of a tourist trap...and a bit overpriced.
Both my boyfriend and I have tried Barnacle Billy%26#39;s and were not impressed at all...maybe, it was just a fluke that the food wasn%26#39;t good that day...don%26#39;t know. We ate at Oarweeds and found it also overpriced...the area was beautiful...right next to the marginal way, but the place was loud and to me the portions were small (at least, what I ordered). We%26#39;ve also been to Poor Richards...beautiful atmosphere; great service...but the food (to us) wasn%26#39;t the best. I tried the lobster stew and it was all broth...and maybe 2 tiny pieces of lobster in it (I paid around $25 for that dish). My boyfriend had a salmon dish...which had a strange sweet sauce on it.
If you are looking for a place that is more casual/family oriented with good seafood, try Mike%26#39;s Clam Shack on route 1 (I think it%26#39;s actually located in Wells - just minutes away from Ogunquit) or if you are in the mood for steaks, try The Steakhouse...both restaurants are delicious.
Hope you have a great time!
I will also agree that Mike%26#39;s Clam Shack is one of the best spots for seafood in Wells/Ogunquit area. The fried clams are done to perfection and topped with the best home maid tartar sauce. The Lobster Stew is loaded with chunks of lobster and well worth th $12. Prices are moderate and havn%26#39;t gone up since they recently renovated. Except for fried clams I usually don%26#39;t like fried seafood except at Mike%26#39;s. The fried dishes are light and not soaking in grease. The service is friendly and quick. The one bad dish we had was baked haddock. They forgot to season and butter the crumbs. When the waitress came to check on us, and my wife said she couldn%26#39;t eat it. The waitress without hesitation asked if she would like something else. No strange looks or confusion and having to ask the manager. Within a few min she was served a replacement fried haddock. Every restaurant can be off on a day, but how you correct it is what makes the differance
I disagree with some of the criticisms of the restaurants in Ogunquit. Many are not necessarily cheap but I would not consider them ';Tourist Traps';. I agree that Jackies Too is a Tourist Trap, as you get horrible food for a high price. But For the most part the food at the Ogunquit Lobster Pound, Baranacle Billys, Barnacle Billys Etc. and the Oarweed is very good. To criticize the Lobster Pound by saying the Lobster is good but the other things on the menu are not , is like criticising a Pizzaria by saying the Pizza is good but the hamburgers are not great. If you go to the Lobster Pound, go for Lobster. If you want something else, go elsewhere.
Chauncey Creek, http://www.chaunceycreek.com is a bit of a drive from Ogunquit, but it%26#39;s in a gorgeous setting. If you have time to make the drive it would be fun.
I also agree Oarweed and Barnacle Billys are not tourist traps. Our meals were very good. Pricing depends on where your from. For us it was mod to high nothing outrageous. Jackie%26#39;s is hit or miss and I can see where people think it%26#39;s a tourist trap.and service isn%26#39;t the most friendly in the area.
...I didn%26#39;t mean to offen anybody by calling some of the restaurants in the Ogunquit area tourist traps - please remember, it%26#39;s just my opinion.
The Oarweed charges moderate prices - but for what I ordered (and what my boyfriend ordered)...the portions were way too small and for that reason, I considered it overpriced for what you got. But I%26#39;ve only been to this restaurant once...I don%26#39;t know what the other dishes are like - they could very well be better.
On top of that, we were seated to a table that was not properly cleaned and even the tips from the last occupants were still left on our table...we had to flag down a waiter 3 times for him to take the money off our table.
As a Montrealer, we are not accustomed to being served a huge platter of food whenever we go out to restaurants....but we expect to be full after eating a meal and this was not the case with this restaurant. By the way, both my boyfriend and I are considered to be very slim and are not at all big eaters.
As for Barnacle Billy%26#39;s...the last time that I went to this restaurant, it was about 10 years ago - so, it could very well be different now. Again, BB%26#39;s was moderately priced...but as I recall...both my boyfriend and I ordered the lobster - something that they specialized in. The lobster not only tasted a tad dry but it was also difficult to remove the meat from it%26#39;s shell (a sure sign that it was overcooked). So, even if you are only paying around $22 for this meal - it%26#39;s considered overpriced to me for what you get. Maybe, it was just an off night for Barnacle Billy%26#39;s but I doubt that I would try it again...as I have recently discovered Mike%26#39;s Clam Shack. I%26#39;ve only gone to MCS twice but both times the food was great and to me well worth the price...the same is true for The Steakhouse. But again, that%26#39;s just my opinion.
