How to get to Acadia NP without a car from NYC?

Hi all

Is it possible to get to Acadia NP from Manhattan without a car? And how early would one need to book accommodation for October, the peak of the fall foliage?

Thanks for your help.

It is possible. There is a small airport near Bar Harbor and I think they have some commercial flights. I am not sure who flies there, and cannot imagine it being an economical flight.

There is a real airport in Bangor. I am not sure if there are direct flights from NY, but I am sure you could fly in there without too much difficulty. Trouble is, from Bangor you are still an hour drive to BH. Maybe there is a bus or an airport shuttle or limosine service that you could take.

You could probably also take a bus into Bar Harbor. I imagine you would need to get to Boston, first, and then take a bus to Bangor. I know that Concotd Trailways serves Bangor, and there is probably a bus from Bangor to BH that you could take.

Of course, you could also rent a car once you get to Bangor.

As for booking accommodations for fall foliage season, it is not too early to do so now.

I second nextstop%26#39;s advice about lodging---fall foliage season has become very popular here.

As to getting here sans auto, check out:

There are flights into Trenton Airport from NY area and other metro areas. Trenton is just outside the island. You should be able to get on to the island and get a bike for your visit.
