Family Dining

We will be coming up to Bar Harbor during mid-July with our grandchildren, ages 4, 7, and 10, and our daughter. We would appreciate any recommendations of reasonably priced restaurants that aren%26#39;t chain restaurants. Thank you for your suggestions.

Family Dining

There are no chain restaurants in the Bar Harbor area. So you don%26#39;t need to worry about that. Over in Southwest Harbor, closer to where you are staying, there is Eat-a-Pita and Sips. In Bar Harbor, there is the West Street Cafe, Poor Boys Gourmet, and Geddy%26#39;s. All have reasonably priced menus with choices that are good for children. Most of the restaurants in Bar Harbor, and there are lots of them, post their menus outside. A stroll around town will pretty quickly find you an acceptable-to-you place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Family Dining

I have a ten yr old and we have gone to BH since she was 5. A MUST every year is Geddes. The kids love the whacky decorations, they have good food at good prices, and there is a gift shop (either up or downstairs-I can%26#39;t remember) from it. If you arent%26#39; into that kind of thing, you can totally avoid it, it%26#39;s not like you are forced to go in there. But once found, it does have neat stuff. There%26#39;s also this chocolate/ice cream place in town, right on Maine Street. Its kinda pricey, but good. Fun to get some and then take a walk downtown, or on Shore Path (which is this very easy, short walk along the shore). Anyone in town can probably point you towards it.

Enjoy!

Geddys actually has some of the best pizza in the area. Plus during the day it%26#39;s fun for kids. For dinner we love West Street Cafe. Have been going there for years (15+) and it has always been consistently good. The best thing to do if you want to splurge, however, is go to a lobster pound to eat lobster outside on a tray. Kids would love it! Was always the highlight of our vacation when our daughter was young.

Geddy%26#39;s sounds like a fun place that we will definitely try. And we%26#39;ll check out West Street Cafe too. We had decided we would try a lobster pound for the experience. The kids aren%26#39;t as enthusiastic as I am about the opportunity. I think I%26#39;ll bribe them to try it by telling them they%26#39;ll each be able to write a story about the experience and we%26#39;ll include pictures of them experiencing it to take back to school in the fall . . . you know, the typical ';What I Did On My Summer Vacation'; project. Thanks, everyone.

If an appropriate movie is playing, Reel Cinema is a great place for pizza and a movie--at the same time. And, even a beer, if you take the Island Explorer...
