I attended a wedding this weekend at the Lucerne Inn and stayed at the Inn. I had always assumed that the inn would be pricey, but when I called for a quote I was surprised to find it cheaper than the other motel I was considering (in the Bangor Mall area.)
I had cozy room with a double bed, a easy-to-use gas fireplace,tv , a view of the lake and mountains, a bathroom with a jucuzzi-style tub (suitable for only one person), towel-warming rack, terrycloth robes and other amenities.
A continental breakfast (cereal, fruit, baked goods) was included in the price of the room.
It occured to me that the Lucerne would be a good choice for folks who are in the Bangor area for shopping trip. If hubby doesn%26#39;t want to be dragged thru the Mall, he could stay back at the Inn where there is golf, a pool, a lounge downstairs, etc.
The Lucerne also has a good reputation for its fine dining and a Sunday brunch, but the only meal I ate (besides the wedding meal which was good) was the continental breakfast.
Only suggestion--I heard noise from the adjacent stairway. If you stay in the main (old) building, ask for a room away from the stairs.
Consider the Lucerne Inn for Bangor-area lodging
How far away is this Inn from Orono. Do you think it would work as a place to stay when visiting U Me?
Consider the Lucerne Inn for Bangor-area lodging
Depends on whether you are making one visit to the campus or mulitple visits.
If you are going to campus for basically one event (graduation, a hockey game, a concert) and returning to your hotel with no plans to visit campus again on this trip, then the Lurcerne would be fine. A bit of a haul, but not too far.
However, if you are looking at making repeated visits to campus over a couple of days (if you have a kid in school and want a hotel base where you can go back and change clothes, nap, refresh, etc.) then I%26#39;d say too far unless you really want that more luxurious lodging. If you plan on going back and forth to campus events, taking the kid out to eat, shopping, etc. then stay right in Orono (Black Bear Inn) or one of the Mall motels.
Mapquest has it 25 miles/35 minutes.
Yup. It is an easy 20-30 minute drive. 1a north to Bangor. Rt 2north and stay Rt. 2 till Orono and turn left onto college ave. Very easy.
The fastest route would be 1A to 395 to 95 to the Orono Exit (Kelly Rd or Stillwater depending on where you%26#39;re headed on campus.) Too much stop and go on Route 2.
Even if not staying at the Lucerne anyone that might be driving through that area on a Sunday morning should definately stop for the brunch it is wonderful and if you are lucky enough to get a window seat you can take in the view while you enjoy the meal.
