boothbay harbor windjammer festival

Hi, thx for all your previous replies to my posts. I think we have finally narrowed down our decision. There doesnt seem to be a 2 or 3 day schooner trip for the dates we are planning, so we are now looking at being in the Boothbay Harbor for the grand parade of the schooners. This is midweek on June 27-28. Would this be considered the beginning of the busy season - do we need to have reservations? We are leaving Toronto, Canada on June 23, visiting Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Freeport, Camden and Bar Harbor, and returning to Toronto on the weekend of July 1. Has anyone ever been to this event?

Hi sherlee555,

I%26#39;ve been in the Boothbay Harbor area for over 25 years and know the event well. Windjammers Fesitival is alot of fun with plenty of other activities scheduled in addition to the boat parade. In fact the street parade is my favorite and is a hoot ! Check out www.boothbayharbor.com for more details.

June is still considered %26#39;off season%26#39; at some accomodations as far as rates go, but you%26#39;d still need to make reservations to be on the safe side. Try and book a place downtown so you won%26#39;t have to worry about parking, etc. It%26#39;ll be worth it as it gets pretty crowded and parking can be hard to come by and/or expensive then.

I%26#39;d recommend the Tugboat Inn, Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf, The Welch House, Topside, or the Greenleaf Inn or Admiral%26#39;s Quarters. All are right in the thick of things, though the Welch House and Topside are way up on a hill that would be tough to climb if you%26#39;re asthmatic or not in very good shape. However, their views, especially from the Welch House are breathtaking and you%26#39;d have a prime seat for the fireworks as well as the parade! You%26#39;d never have to leave to see anything!

Another alternative is the east side on Atlantic Ave. There%26#39;s the Rocktide and Browns Wharf. Both are located on the water, will have great views of the parade as well as the fireworks and have trolleys running on a regular basis into town. However, you could walk also. It would take about 15 minutes to get downtown over the footbridge.

In any case, good luck with your trip and hope you have a great time :).

It would be best to have reservations in Bar Harbor. That is indeed the beginning of the busy season.
