My wife and I will be headed up to Acadia with our then six-month old baby in the fall. Can a stroller work well on the carriage roads? We are thinking of taking long walks with her but I didn%26#39;t know if the roads were too gravelly. Any insight?

Definitely.
The roads are very well kept. You can use one of the %26#39;jogger%26#39; strollers or even just a little more rugged %26#39;regular%26#39; stroller. (I just wouldnt use a flimsy $10 umbrella stroller.) We used to use a %26#39;regular%26#39; stroller all the time with our kids.
If you feel like trying a jogger stroller and don%26#39;t feel like lugging one up there you can rent one from one of the bike stores in town. There was also a baby rigging rental place we used:

If you guys are up for it, I recommend renting/getting a baby backpack carrier. It really opens up possibilities for you. Many, many trails are suitable for taking your little-one of road.

I%26#39;ll second acadiafan%26#39;s observations.
The surface of the carriage roads is firm. Any of the newer strollers that I have seen---with fairly large, wide wheels---should do fine. I%26#39;ve seen several families with the jogging strollers on the carriage roads.
Check the Overview section (link at the top of the page) in the Bar Harbor forum for descriptions of easy hikes and walks on the island. I especially would recommend Jesup Path and Wonderland.
