Best restaraunt in BH?

My husband and I will be in BH during the 4th of July (we are young...have no kids). What is the best place to eat (best food and local - everything - money not an option).

Best restaraunt in BH?

Can you provide a little more information regarding what you are looking for.

Best as in most expensive?

Best as in most romantic?

Best as in fanciest?

Best as in best food even if it doesn%26#39;t fit into one of the above?

What kind of food are you looking for? Lobster? Vegetarian? etc.

And are you just focusing on dinner or are you looking for breakfast and lunch as well?

Best restaraunt in BH?

Best as in dinner food - regular menu...not vegatarian. is there one place in BH that is known for an all around great dining experience.

I don%26#39;t believe that there is a one-restaurant answer to your question because so much depends on the type of cuisine one enjoys---or doesn%26#39;t

The two restaurants considered most upscale are Michelle%26#39;s Fine Dining Bistro and the Rose Garden---very different in style.

The Reading Room at the Bar Harbor Innis an old, established restaurant with a classical menu.

There are other restaurants which are briefly discussed in the Overview section of this forum.

If you are planning to have dinner on the 4th, be aware that the village-center area will be mobbed with people here for the fireworks. On that evening, the Rose Garden would be the quietest venue of the three that I%26#39;ve noted.

I%26#39;ve eaten at the Rose Garden. It%26#39;s very formal and very good. If you are looking for something less formal, but still delicious, I would vote for Guiness %26amp; Porcelli%26#39;s or Havana. They are both pretty casual, but the food is very good. You will definitely need reservations for both for the holiday weekend. I would suggest making them a couple weeks before you arrive if you decide on one of them.

Jack Russell%26#39;s on Route 3 is excellent, pub fare/pub atmosphere.

We visit Bar Harbor every year in September. Our trips wouldn%26#39;t be complete without the lobster crepes at Maggie%26#39;s. Friends in Bar Harbor introduced us to Mache Bistro in Bar Harbor and Red Sky over in Southwest Harbor. Both were excellent and we will return to both this year.

Many people seem to like Burning Tree in Otter Creek. We were there last year and felt it was very pretentious and just ok. We won%26#39;t return this year but again others like it.

All that said, I just get the feeling that you are looking for Michele%26#39;s Fine Dining. Check it out.

And if you are into interesting breakfasts, check out Jeannie%26#39;s, Two Cats, Cafe This Way and Jordan%26#39;s.

And don%26#39;t forgot to stop by the Jordan Pond House for lemonade and popovers.

Be aware that some of the better restaurants don%26#39;t serve dinner on July 4th itself because they don%26#39;t want to put up with the fireworks crowd.

If you had asked this question about Portland, there might be a consensus that Fore Street is the best restaurant in Portland, among many very good restaurants. But in Bar Harbor no one restaurant has established itself as the best. Plus, restaurants come and go fairly quickly in Bar Harbor. One would like to think that the best ones stay put. But that isn%26#39;t the case as chefs leave for the Big City or owners find they can%26#39;t pay the lease and still offer high quality food.

I advise asking this question again when it is closer to your date of arrival. I know of at least three restaurants that will be opening in the next few weeks that have the potential of being very good and one favorite restaurant that is losing a chef. As the season gets established, those of us who love eating in Bar Harbor can give you a better picture of what is good %26lt;this season%26gt;.

Thanks everyone - I have marked down each (i cant wait to go to Jordons for lemonoade and popovers - yum!

Galyns Restaurant would be my recommendation. We go there every year, excellent menu, wonderful food and top notch service.

Just want to make sure that you don%26#39;t mix up the Jordan Pond House with Jordans in town Bar Harbor. The Jordan Pond House is for lemonade and pop-overs and is the only restaurant in Acadia National Park, while Jordans is a breakfast place and is in town Bar Harbor. Two very different places. Enjoy!
