Climate history is available at:

That link will probably give you more than you really want to know, but it%26#39;s the best summary.

No special events that I%26#39;m aware of.

Weather and Other Memorial Day questions

Hey cwvoigt,

There must be some small town Memorial Day parade and celebration in one of the towns, no? If not on the island, then on the mainland. I live in a small town in NH and we have a lttle parade here every year. We get the middle school marching band every year, and the HS band every few. They vets get dressed up, and the old timers ride in an old car, and the whole group, color guard, vets, cub, boy and girl scouts, marching band, march to the memorials in town. A prayer is said, wreaths are laid, a 21 gun salute is fired off reverberating off the mountains, and the young boys scurry after the soldiers move on to try and collect the empty shells. The whole town comes out veterans and pacifists alike, beacuse the weather is warm and it is a chance to see folks you haven%26#39;t seen all winter. Some towns may have a little festival, or a ham and bean supper at the church.

Anyway, I would bet that you could find an event like this somewhere nearby. You may not find it on the net. Ask the locals. Go into the hardware store and ask someone. They%26#39;ll know where to go.

Weather is May is very unperdictable in Maine. Last year we have 25 days (I believe) of rain during the month of May last year. So far, this May is looking great weatherwise. Average temps right now are in the upper 50%26#39;s to mid 60%26#39;s during the day, but the evening are still alittle cool, dipping into the 40%26#39;s. The end of May could be about the same temperatures or warmer.

As for events, there is a small Memorial Day Parade on the island. The island high school band plays at it and the Coast Guard is in it as well. But for the life of me, I can%26#39;t remember if it is in downtown Northeast Harbor or Southwest Harbor. Another event that will be happening over that weekend is the Warblers %26amp; Wildflowers Festival. This runs from 5/24 to 5/28. The festival includes: Morning bird walks, peregrine watches, garden tours, art, lectures, and social events. It is sponsored by the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce...for more info, you can visit their website: www.barharborinfo.com

I think all that is done in Bar Harbor is that a wreath is laid in the cemetery on Mt. Desert Street and some sort of ill-attended ceremony is performed by a few veterans in uniform.

Hi,

What I did before going to Italy in mid April is check out the weather via Yahoo for the cities I was visiting.

I live in Maine, I check out this sight which I find the most accurate for the area.

Another good site to check what is going on is their newspaper.

For Acadia National Park, you need to visit the Hulls Cove visitor center before going to Bar Harbor. They also have a newspaper.

Best,

Joanne

According to the local newspaper, there will be a large (35-piece) steel drum band performing on Memorial Day at the Village Green, 6:30 p.m.
