Upscale family reunion near water?

Hi-

My family is celebrating my parents%26#39; 50th anniversary with a mini-reunion in August. Some of my family tend to be a bit high-maintenance, so I need a very nice place, preferably on some kind of lake or water for the gang. We have 3 year old twins so it needs to be appropriate for all ages. We were going to do Mohonk Mtn House but just heard about the crazy set of stairs to the water. Don%26#39;t think my folks or my kids could safely handle it. Anywhere in New England or NY or therabouts would be fine. Suggestions? Anyone know about Interlaken Inn in Lakeville,CT? It got extremely mixed reviews...so I%26#39;m confused.

Thanks!!!

Annie

Really, anywhere in New England or NY? Should there be proximity to an airport? Some of the lake regions of Maine, NH and Vermont can be quite a drive from an airport.

A place on the ocean outside of Portland comes to mind, particularly for the ';upscale'; requirement: Inn by the Sea. It%26#39;s directly on a beautiful, sandy beach. The ';rooms'; are luxurious suites and it%26#39;s very family-friendly, as well as lots to do in the Portland area. www.innbythesea.com

Not to put a damper on any plans, but this is very late to be looking for a setting for a group in our busiest season. You should definitely post on some different forums, too (NH, VT, etc.) Someone in CT may help out with the Interlaken Inn. You%26#39;ll hopefully hear from some other Maine folk about lakefront places.

I would concur with Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. They ';did'; my son%26#39;s wedding a few years ago, and I was MORE than pleased with them. The location, as noted, seems to fit your requirements. Nice accomodations, nice beach. The grounds are very nice. It isn%26#39;t cheap, but if that is not a big issue, I think all your party would find it more than satisfactory.

If there are music lovers in the family, you might also check out Quisisana Resort on Kezar Lake in Center Lovell, Maine. I believe the website is quisisanaresort.com.

There is a family resort on the lake in .. umm, Naples I believe. That%26#39;s what they do. You%26#39;d have to google it though. I forget the name. sorry.

baxterME, I think you%26#39;re referring to Point Sebago Resort. If so, its website is at pointsebago.com. If you search the tripadvisor website, you%26#39;ll also find several posts about it.

Definitely investigate the Migis Inn in Maine. Not far from Portland Airport.

How about Equinox in Manchester Vt?

Skytop in the Poconos?

The only thing I know about the Interlaken Inn is that it is a business conference resort close to the Skip Barber Racing Car school, where you can take lessons......

Sounds like you%26#39;d like a resort-like location that has a swimming pool and on-site dining and catering with private functions rooms, but is also close to lower-priced options for family members that can%26#39;t drop a whole lot of money on lodging. Consider

Colony Hotel Kennebunkport ME

Samoset Resort Rockland ME (has golf, too)

Wentworth Hotel, Jackson NH (has golf, too)

Bar Harbor Inn, Bar Harbor (there are golf courses on the island)

I also agree with Migis Lodge. The grounds there are stunning.

If anywhere in NE is okay, suggestion that you also post in the forums for Stowe and Woodstock, Vermont, as those are lovely towns. No water as far as I know, but lovely mountains.

With Inn by the Sea if some of your relatives want cheaper lodging alternatives, that might be a problem as there isn%26#39;t anything a whole lot cheaper nearby.

As noted by MicheleS, Woodstock, Vt. is a really wonderful town in a beautiful area of Vermont. Looks like ';The Shire'; from the Hobbit.
