I talked to a ranger this morning. They believe that they will be able to open Homans by, or in early, July. I%26#39;m not sure whether it is one large rock, or many, but the estimate is that they will have to move about 100 tons.
Update---Homans Path earthquake damage
That is good news!! Anything on the East Face? Or have they just given up on that one...
Update---Homans Path earthquake damage
I haven%26#39;t heard anything lately about the Champlain trails (Precipice and East Face). Both are still closed--because of the damage and also because of peregrine falcon nesting. Incidentally, the Precipice falcons apparently successfully hatched some chicks.
My impression, given that (1) they can%26#39;t start work on those trails until after the peregrine chicks have fledged, i.e., late July or eary August, and (2) the extent of the damage, is that it is unlikely that either Precipice or East Face will be open this season.
Again, this is not official---only my impression. I%26#39;ll try to get better estimates as we get into the season.
