Where is the nicest coastline area to spend an evening? Cost not as big as a concern as enjoying as much as we can in one day/evening. Will head to Laconia NH from this area too, if this makes a difference for the drive. Is Kennebunkport have something to see, or is it better to stay lower coast of Maine. I only have one day, so want to make the most of my trip.
Kittery through Kennebunkport Location for Night OverHi Bobkateven,
Wow, only having one day too see as much of the coast of Maine as you can is going to be tough, as there%26#39;s so much to see! But either Kennebunkport or Ogunquit would work.
However, I prefer Ogunquit as it%26#39;s more compact and just about everything is easily accessable by foot or trolley if you stay in town; i.e. the beautiful beach, the Marginal Way (a must see!!!), Perkins Cove, and all the shops, galleries, and restaurants.
From Ogunquit it%26#39;s a 10 minute drive north to Kennbebunkport; tour the area by car and don%26#39;t forget to check out Bush 41%26#39;s summer compound at Walker Pt.
Continue north to Cape Elizabeth to see Portland Headlight. This is the quintessential Maine Lighthouse that sits high on a rocky bluff looking out to sea; it also has views of the shipping lanes heading into Portland Harbor along with a wonderful little museum and a great grassy area for picnic-ing or flying kites.
Ten minutes away is Two Lights Lobster Shack which also sits high on a bluff overlooking the ocean. Great place for lobster in the rough, fried clams, chowder - that sort of thing and views that%26#39;ll knock you out.
If you still have time another 10 minutes north is downtown Portland and the Old Port. Browse the shops, galleries, etc.
One more suggestion and this is really pushing it time-wise and that is to try and get out on the water on a tour boat. This is truly the best way to see Maine.
In downtown Portland is the Casco Bay Lines which has several boats offering trips of anywhere from an hour to much longer.
Not sure if Kennebunkport or Ogunquit offers boat tours but it would be worth looking into.
Whatever the case, you%26#39;ll see lighthouses, islands, seals, osprey, some pretty spectacular summer homes, and maybe even a whale or two depending on the trip and time of year.
Good luck with whatever you choose and have a wonderful time. Don%26#39;t forget to report back too!!!

Kittery through Kennebunkport Location for Night OverP.S. to Bob,
To clairfy driving times: If you were to drive straight from Ogunquit to downtown Portland on route 95 it would take about 30 minutes. To drive the backroads or route 1 to each of the destinations I%26#39;ve given it%26#39;s about 10 minutes between each place.
But that%26#39;s with no traffic. Even with no traffic the delay wouldn%26#39;t be that much, maybe an additional 10 to 15 minutes depending on the time of year.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you can see ALOT in a day if you%26#39;re high energy, plan things methodically, have good info, and have the desire and motivation!
Again, good luck and don%26#39;t forget to post back and let us know how it went :).

I second Ogunquit as walkable/compact and access to ocean via Marginal Way is great.
For fast route across to NH can return south and go east on 101. For more scenic route go north to Portland (and take some time to see sights as suggested above) and then go west on 302 to No. Conway.
