Teenagers in Bath

What is fun for a 16 year old boy and girl (twins) to do in Bath. We have one full day and one afternoon.

Teenagers in Bath

Hi LOLO,

Welcome to Maine! The kids might enjoy strolling downtown Bath or going to the Maritime Museum or even driving by and if possible, walking around Bath Iron Works where huge naval ships are built.

OR if the weather is decent, a trip to either Reid State Park or Popham beaches might work. Both beaches are really nice, have snack bars, public restrooms and lots of areas to walk around and rocky shores to climb.

A trip to downtown Brunswick, home of Bowdoin College might be fun. Walk around, shop, and/or tour the college grounds.

Or you could drive to Boothbay Harbor and enjoy the village where there%26#39;s tons of shops, galleries, etc. or take a boat tour of the harbor or even go on a whale watch. There%26#39;s also a very old fashioned bowling alley downtown which also offers pool tables and video games that teens love. BBH is about a 35 minute drive north of Bath.

Last but not least, you could drive south of Bath to downtown Portland and hang out in the Old Port. The kids will LOVE it there as it%26#39;s a fun, hip, and happening area that many enjoy with tons of cafes, coffee shops, galleries, restaurants, etc. You could also hop on one of the Casco Bay Lines ferries and tour Casco Bay. Portland is about a 20 minute drive south of Bath.

Whatever you decide, have a great time and don%26#39;t forget to report back :).

Teenagers in Bath

There are many places in the Bath area where you can rent kayaks and go out on the ocean or Nequasset Lake. You can go on your own or with an organized group.

In the good weather months, you can take a Kennebec River cruise, viewing lighthouses and wildlife.

In the summer, the Bath waterfront farmers market operates on Thursdays and Saturdays from 8:30am to 4pm. Also in summer, there are concerts in Library Park every Friday night at 7pm.

Downtown Bath has several interesting little shops that your twins may enjoy. There are clothing and jewelry boutiques, Maine-made products, a fantastic kitchen store (not so much for the twins, but you might like it) and the Maine classic, Renys. Renys is a discount department store that is so popular with thrifty Mainers that someone even wrote a musical about it.

If it happens that you%26#39;re here the first weekend of July, you%26#39;d be able to enjoy Heritage Days. There is a somewhat cheesy carnival with rides and attractions and fireworks at night. The town has several events that weekend, including a parade, book sale, giant yard sale, art sale, and so on.

In nearby Brunswick there is a large bowling alley with pool tables and video games. Across the road from it there is a miniature golf course.

I second the recommendation of Reid State Park and Popham Beach. If you do go to Reid, I also recommend going to Five Islands wharf, which is just a mile away. The wharf has a breathtaking view of five islands (no surprise) and has many picnic tables where you can eat your lunch purchased from the wharf%26#39;s lobster pound. They also sell steamed mussels, fried seafood, hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream.

I agree that the twins may enjoy downtown Brunswick. Because it%26#39;s a college town, it may have somewhat more appeal for teenagers.
