My wife and I are flying into Manchester, NH this Labor Day and were thinking of driving to Maine to spend the weekend. We have no idea where to go but, know we don%26#39;t want to spend a lot of time driving and want to stay in quaint little towns near the coast.
Can anyone offer us ideas on where to go and things to do? We want to do some active things but, also want time to lounge around and relax. We are not big on needing to see this or that. We are more off the beaten path type people as my signon states.
Thanks in advance.

I don%26#39;t know if you are going to be able to find exactly what you are looking for, particularly since that weekend can be so busy. To give you an idea of the driving times involved, it will take you about 45 minutes (maybe 35 if the traffic is light) to get to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, which is your gateway to the Maine coast. From there, there are small coastal towns until you get close to Portland (which is an hour from Portsmouth). Since one of your goals is to not spend too much time driving, let%26#39;s assume you don%26#39;t want to go any farther than that.
Any of those little coastal towns.....Kennebunkport as the previous poster suggested; Ogunquit, York Harbor....would likely suit you. However, off the beaten track they are not! Southern Maine is very popular with tourists. While some towns (Wells, Old Orchard Beach) are ';touristy';, even the smaller places, while still quaint, can feel a bit overrun on a summer weekend.
I hear you on the ';off the beaten track'; thing (I just got back from the Seychelles Islands, so you can see that I have similar feelings!) and to this end you might try one of the inland towns in York County (the southernmost part of Maine). Unfortunately I%26#39;m not really familiar enough with that area to be too specific with advice, but I know there is kayaking, and Maine is full of nice little B %26amp;B%26#39;s, inns, etc and you might find something that suits you.
