Off Bar Harbor Lodging Recommendation - July 4 to 6

Planning to attend a wedding in Sherbrooke , Quebec on July 7 but we were thinking about a first visit to Bar Harbor from July 4-6. Hotel prices are at the highest rates this time of year. Any recommendations for lodging 10-20 minutes outside of Bar Harbor in the low $100/night? Trying to avoid the tourist traps.

Hi. Try the %26#39;quietside%26#39; of Mount Desert Island at the Southwest Harbor/Tremont Chamber of Commerce - acadiachamber.com. There are many options in that range but availability may be an issue at this late date. Happy Planning.

Right in Bar Harbor, the Holbrook House Bed and Breakfast appears to have availability for the dates you mention. The July 4th parade goes right past their place and their rates are in your price range. You might also check out The Primrose Inn which is right across the street from the Holbrook House.

www.sleepbarharbor.com has a page on availability for a number of the Bed and Breakfast places.

Those are both Bed and Breakfasts in old manions. There are also any number of motels you could check out: Highbrook, Cromwell Harbor, Edenbrook.

The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce lists many lodging places at: www.barharborinfo.com/lodging_frame2.html

I%26#39;m not sure what you mean by a tourist trap. You pay your money and they don%26#39;t give you a bed for the night??!!

The first time I visited Acadia I did what you did, try to save $$ by staying in Ellsworth. I found it was too far away and that if I paid just a wee bit more (less than $25 per night) I could be right on the island.

I suggest sucking it up and staying on the island.
