Candlepin--where to find it?

I%26#39;ve just discovered the sport of duckpin bowling and some have mentioned I should candlepin a try. Are there any candlepin bowling centers in Portland? If not, where are the closest ones?

Candlepin--where to find it?

According to the Maine Candlepin Proprietor%26#39;s Assn ( www.bowlcandlepin.com/maine.htm )...

the closest to Portland appear to be Big 20 in Scarborough and Colonial in Westbrook.

Candlepin--where to find it?

thanks!

since scarborough and westbrook are about 20 minutes away from portland...which area is most scenic or interesting? In other words, are there any other attractions near either that would make the trip worth it than just playing candlepin?

thanks!

In Scarboro you%26#39;ll be closer to any number of beaches and state parks. Not much to see in Westbrook.

Candlepin bowling is the greatest. People always think it will be easy to do well because of the small, easy-to-handle ball, but it%26#39;s only easy to play, not easy to score. So you can get really challenging matches. Whenever my cousins are visiting, they always clamor for a trip to the candlepin bowling alley. One of them even says his life%26#39;s ambition is to own his own.

Good Time Lanes in Lisbon Falls is a good place, but that%26#39;s 40 minutes from Portland. There is tiny little place in Brunswick, which is about 25 minutes from Portland. Brunswick would be easy to go to if you were thinking of a visit to Freeport (home of LL Bean), since it%26#39;s the next town up I-295.

You can find candlepin bowling in Boothbay Harbor. There%26#39;s a great alley there and its find to spend the day around the Harbor.
