Would appreciate any suggestions on planning a trip to the mid-Maine region. We are flying into Portland and have a long weekend. We want to go to some lobster shacks, take a boat tour and stay in a bed breakfast. Considering Rockland but open to suggestions.
Is there a better place for finding lobster places? Will check the bed and breakfast list but would appreciate any info on a good one in that area.
Thanks in advance.
Please help trip planningFor the best food suggestions lobster rolls or lobser shacks try ';Chowhounds.com'; and check the NE board. There is one in Spruce Head which has won the James Beard Award. There is the Farnsworth Museam for Artwork. Search for area you are going. I would second the Rockland area. You can either go to Camden or Rockland for a Schooner sail or head to one of the Ferry Ports for a trip to Monhegan or Vinal Haven or in Lincolnville you can head out to Ilesboro. This area will be two hours from Portland or more if you are traveling during ';high tourist season'; moving hours. 3 days isn%26#39;t much time to enjoy all this area has to offer.
When are you traveling to Maine?
Please help trip planningWe are planning to come the weekend of Aug24-27. Would love to stay longer but work calls us back home. Thanks for your suggestions. We visited Bar Harbour two years ago and enjoyed going from lobster shack to lobster shack. The schooner idea sounds perfect for us.
Thanks
Have you looked at the Damariscotta area? It%26#39;s about an hour from Portland. I live here, so I%26#39;m definitely very biased :-) There%26#39;s great, super low-key, lobster co-ops in the area, a number of boat tour options and you can also get to Monhegan from the Pemaquid Peninsula. We LOVE the Camden / Lincolnville / Rockland area too and often drive up to take advantage of whatever%26#39;s going on up there.
The correct url for food that the first poster mentioned is chowhound.com (no s). I%26#39;m a regular on there and used it do some searching for our upcoming trip. We are doing three nights in Camden and the three best places to eat that I found in the course of my research were Primo, Francine Bistro and Atlantica, though obviously these aren%26#39;t lobster shacks. There was a recent thread on lobster rolls that might be of interest. FWIW, we reserved at the Camden Windward Inn based on reviews here and the fact that it was not overdone with chintz and flowers.
We loved The Belmont Inn in Camden and took a schooner ride on the Schooner Surprise. Easy drive down to the Rockland area, tons of lobster everywhere on the coast really.
