We are planning a trip to OOB for July with our 6 and 4 year old boys. We do York every year and love it, but were looking for something different this year. We would love any suggestions for clean, family friendly places to stay - a pool is a must and walking distance to the beach would be great. We don%26#39;t need a kitchen or anything - who wants to cook while on vacation!
We are also wondering if anyone has gone to Funtown and/or Splashtown - we know nothing about it, but my husband doesn%26#39;t want to sit on the beach for 4 days and the kids love amusement and water parks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Funtown/Splashtown %26amp; lodging suggestions
The new hotel right on the beach might suit your needs. Its a giant building sitting right on the beach on the east grand side. Doubt it has a pool, cause of the beach. but.. I%26#39;ll think about other places with pools and get back to ya if I can think of any.
There is a great campground about 1 to 1.5 miles away from the beach with a pool and playground. They may have sleeping cabins now?
Funtown %26amp; splashtown are both great. Carnival type stuff. Don%26#39;t know how it%26#39;ll be for kids that small? Someone may have better idea. If you miss Splashtown and are driving back south, hit Water Country in Portsmouth NH!!

Thanks for your suggestions - do yo know the name of the new hotel on the beach???
extremely expensive. right in the mddle of the noise of downtown. dont know if it would be condusive to the kind of vacation you want with little kids. It is on the beach side, but it is also right off the sidewalk. Your choice. i think the addrses is 1 east grand avenue
Thanks for your help and advice - we are now considering staying in Saco at the Hampton Inn - It is 3 miles from the beach and close to Splashtown and Aquaboggan. Do you know if there is parking available at the beach?
First, think about the campgound suggestion. It is Bayley%26#39;s and they have rental trailers. There are pools, playground and scheduled activities there. If you go to the North End of OOB, to pine point early in the morning you can find free parking along the street, if not there is a town beach with parking just a wee bit north. There is also a small waterpark you might consider near splshtown; it used to offer a late afternoon half price ticket. We found that three hours was about the most our kids would last anyway. Portland also has a Children%26#39;s museum which is nice and easy to get to.
It wan%26#39;t Bayley%26#39;s I was thinking of, though a good suggestion.
This isn%26#39;t the one I was thinking of either but I%26#39;m searching for it on another window and it looked kid friendly. And only 2/10 from the beach or so it says..

The Hotel i believe is called ';the Grand';. But as earlier poster said it is smack dab central. Good and bad. Parking is a B! in OOB. There are places but it%26#39;ll cost you and driving in general during high season is time wasted.
The hotel is called the Grand Victorian. It is in the middle of all. And does have a pool..The only thing with children there are alot of bars around, and sometimes alot of language.. Try the Sea Cliff House, off of West Grand Ave., my brother stays there. On the Beach and a pool. Also the Sea Drift on East Grand Ave. Same owners for many years they also own the Atlantis Motel. There are alot of choices.
I like the beach on the East Grand Ave. It is flatter, as the other side West Grand has a bigger undertow when it is high tide.. Enjoy!!
look up the normandie its a great motel on the beach with a inside pool and jacuzzi the rooms are nice and the people are freindly u can see pictures online of the rooms and kichenetts and funtown isnt to far away and u have the rides and stuff down the street for the whole family to enjoy
Wild Acres (www.mainecamping.com) has a path to walk directly onto the beach. We%26#39;ve stayed there for a week every summer and love it! Our kids are now 3, 9 and 15 and it%26#39;s good for all of them.
Wild Acres is a great campground but the Powderhorn is not as big and not too far from the beach. Wild Acres has gotten pretty run down now and has so many huge motorhomes it has lost it%26#39;s family feeling. The last time I went the washrooms were disgusting.
We stayed in a 2 room cabin at the Exit 5 Motel. It was quite clean and a short drive into Ocean Park which is a great place to be just west of downtown OOB.
When you are at Ocean Park there is a little grocery store that makes great deli sandwiches and also an old-fashioned ice cream parlour which also serves meals.
The beaches are busy but certainly no where near as busy as downtown with all the noise, people and clutter.
If you want to be a little further away Saco is great. We stayed one night there at the Holiday Inn Express (breakfast included).
We love OOB. There is an aquarium near Funtown too if you get a rainy day. There is the Maine Mall which has fun stores (Discovery Zone) and movie theatres.
Don%26#39;t forget to stop in at Bill%26#39;s pizza for a slice or two or better yet a whole pie! YummmY!
